How do you feel about cutting weight for a tournament? If you choose to cut weight, what strategies do you use to ensure you make weight on competition day?
You definitely have to have a plan and start months before the tournament to cut weight, especially if you have to cut over ten pounds. Cutting weight takes a a lot of discipline and it’s hard but I do it because I like being accountable for what I eat. I’m still figuring out what works best for me but as of now being on a high protein (animal based protein) and low carb diet is not as big of a struggle than when I was on a calorie deficit diet as a vegetarian. Plus, adding more cardio and weight lifting has helped keep me feeling stronger instead of feeling fatigued during the process.
I’m just eating fish and vegetables for the next two weeks, maybe a piece of toast in the morning. If you do need carbs eat it in the morning or for lunch skip it for dinner. I stay away from process foods and sweets. I don’t like to eat past 6pm but I try to be flexible with my eating times, especially if I’m out with friends. I drink at least 64oz of water/day.
